Westside Greens Endorse Michael Feinstein
Over the weekend, the
Westside Greens voted to endorse incumbent Santa Monica City Council
member and Green Party member Michael Feinstein for re-election this
fall.
“Whether it is planting more trees to make our neighborhoods
beautiful, moving to renewable energy to clean our air, treating
polluted water to keep our Bay clean — or opposing Playa Vista because
of its negative effects on Santa Monica and its importance as a
regional nature and open space — Michael Feinstein has been at the
forefront of environmental issues in Santa Monica,” said Santa Monica
resident and Westside Green Linda Pierra Avila.
Added Ocean Park resident Lori Nafshun, a Santa Monica Recreation and
Parks Commissioner who is also a local Green, “I support Michael
because he has been a creative leader in acquiring more parks and open
space for our community.”
The Westside Greens is the local organization of Green Party members
and has been in existence since 1988.
Other California Greens endorsing Feinstein in this year’s campaign
include former Green statewide candidates Peter Camejo (Governor 2002,
2003), Medea Benjamin (U.S. Senate 2000), Dan Hamburg (Governor 1998),
Sara Amir (Lt. Governor 1998) and Ralph Nader (President 1996, 2000),
as well as San Francisco Board of Supervisors President Matt Gonzalez.
Feinstein’s bid for re-election has also been endorsed by the Southern
California chapter of Americans for Democratic Action, an independent
liberal political organization founded in 1947 by former first lady
Eleanor Roosevelt, labor leader Walter Reuther, economist John Kenneth
Galbraith, historian Arthur Schlesinger, Jr., theologian Ronald
Niebuhr, and former Vice President Hubert Humphrey. |
