1953: THE WAY IT WAS

By 1953, Marion Davies’ opulent estate on Santa
Monica’s legendary Gold Coast had become Ocean House, a beach club.
The two boys in the center of photo are Ronny and Merritt Sher. Their
sister, Abby, stands beside the pool. Today, though the pool remains,
the building behind it is gone.
