Pony League Season Opens March 8
The Santa Monica Pony League, a baseball program for
kids ages 5 to 14, will kick off its season with an Opening Day
Ceremony at Los Amigos Park on Saturday, March 8.
The Pony League is a national non-profit youth baseball
association. The Santa Monica league serves over 265 children each
year. This year Santa Monica Fire Department Captain Fernando Padilla
is Santa Monica’s Pony League President.
This season’s Opening Day celebration will honor two league members
who died last year — Sergio Barba, who was fatally electrocuted and
left behind his wife and 5-year-old son who plays in the league, and
9-year-old Mac Flynn, who died after battling Leukemia.
Mayor Richard Bloom, SMFD Fire Chief Ettore Berardinelli, SMPD
Chief James Butts and Principal Community Services Supervisor Rich
Rollins will be on hand to throw out game balls.
The ceremony will begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 8 at Los
Amigos Park, at the corner of 6th Street and Hollister Avenue,
adjacent to John Muir and SMASH elementary schools. |
