Reflecting the Concerns of the Community  June 26 - July 2, 2002 Vol. 4, Issue 2

Summit on Summit Here Sat.

A Southern California Town Meeting for U.N. Earth Summit II has been organized by Friends of the United Nations and the Southern California Council on Environment and Development to discuss progress made since the first U.N. Earth Summit, held in 1992 in Rio de Janeiro, and to make recommendations to delegates to Summit II.
The only such Town Hall meeting scheduled in this country, it will be held Saturday, June 29, in Santa Monica.
Adelphia Cable’s Bill Rosendahl will moderate the day-long session at which 40 speakers – from area cities, environmental and conservation organizations and labor groups – will appear. Speakers from the United Nations and the U.S. State department will discuss progress made on goals set at the ’92 Summit and local experts will talk about successful area programs. Those attending the conference will have an opportunity to comment on the U.S. government’s policies and to contribute to the recommendations that will be sent with a member of the U.S. delegation to Summit II in Johannesburg.
The conference will be held at Crossroads School, 1718 Olympic Boulevard, on Saturday, June 29, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Admission, which includes breakfast and lunch, is $25 at the door, and $10 for students, but no one will be turned away for want of funds. To register, call (310) 453-8489, visit www.scced.org or email WorldSummitLA@aol.com.
