St. Mark Girls Win ‘Our Lady of Guadalupe’ Tournament

   Venice’s St. Mark 8th grade girls’ volleyball team defeated the Los Angeles Catholic Youth Organization defending champions, Manhattan Beach’s American Martyrs Catholic School, to win the ‘Our Lady of Guadalupe’ volleyball tournament in Hermosa Beach last weekend.
   St. Mark played 10 games Saturday, September 28, winning eight to go on and capture the championship.
   In the semi-finals, St. Mark defeated Westwood’s St. Paul the Apostle, 15-10. Finally, St. Mark took care of American Martyrs 15-8, 7-15, and won the exciting final game 16-14.
   This is the second tournament won by St. Mark. The team has compiled a 38-5 game record for 2002.
   St. Mark Girls’ Volleyball team members are: Mickie Arias, Bailey Ford, Michele Gonzalez, Julianna Herrera, Shelley Jensen, Corissa Lappin, Alex Pegnato, Kat Pritchard, Marlee Rice, Kelsea Rock, and Jamie Sabol.
