Center Stage: Hadda Brooks, Linda Hopkins: Tribute to Nellie Lutcher

Highlights

Rock, Pop

The Rezillos, The Stitches, The Exessories, The Fuse, Thunderfist at The Garage. 6/20. Wow! One of early punk rock’s lesser known, but not less important, history makers are finally making their first LA appearance. Formed in ’76, these Scottish pop-art punkers combined a Flash Gordon costumed, futuristic sensibility with wit and self deprecating humor. They even released a single as “The Revillos,” teasing themselves as being reviled throughout the land (which they’re not, but they truly are underappreciated). Their cartoon party fun predates the B-52’s and of course, the Gorillaz. Get there early, this show will probably sell out fast.
The Bonebrake Syncopators at Bigfoot Lounge. 6/23. Veteran cowpunk drum-god DJ Bonebrake (X, Superstring) has enlisted the cream of the crop for his new band, including brilliant guitar wrangler TK Smith (Big Sandy, Smith Ranch Boys), Jeremy Wakefield (Lucky Stars, Dave Stuckey, Smith Ranch Boys), and Wally Hersom (Big Sandy, Lucky Stars).
X at Rock Walk, 12 noon, 6/25. Seminal LA punk band gets inducted into the Rock Walk Hall of Fame, a Grauman’s Chinese take-off, complete with hand/instrument impressions in cement. 7425 Sunset. Info: rockwalk.com
The Vice Principals, DJ Ben Vendetta at Bigfoot Lounge, 6/26. Featuring former members of The Humpers, Throw Rag, The Hellbenders, and The Flame Throwers.
