Relay For Life Kick-Off Party Set

On Wednesday, May 29, from 6 to 7:30 p.m., the American Cancer Society, City of Santa Monica, Santa Monica Police Department and Santa Monica College will co-sponsor a “kick-off party” for the first annual Santa Monica Relay For Life.
Relay for Life is a 24-hour event held to increase cancer awareness in Santa Monica while raising funds for the American Cancer Society.
Participants form teams of 10-15 people, taking turns on the track walking or running in shifts. Friends, relatives, local businesses, hospitals, schools, churches and other organizations organize teams, which are asked to keep one member on the track at all times. Team members are also required to pay a $10 registration fee and asked to raise a minimum of $100.
Although the Relay won’t be held until August 3 and 4, planning for it has already begun. People who are interested in forming a team, or in volunteering in other ways, should attend the party for hors d’oeuvres, refreshments and more information.
The party, hosted by Buca di Beppo, 1442 Second St., is free to the public. RSVP to Maxine Tatlonghari, American Cancer Society, (213) 368-8537, or maxine.tatlonghari@cancer.org, by Friday, May 24. Space is limited.
