Center Stage: Elvis Costello & The Imposters

Highlights

Rock, Pop

Sky Saxon’s Seeds at Mr. T’s Bowl, 5/24. Could it be? The REAL Sky Saxon?!? If this is for real, run, don’t walk, as fast as you can, down to catch one of rock n’ roll’s unsung garage legends and innovative 60’s psychedelic noise monster.
David J. (Bauhaus, Love & Rockets), The Velvet Cash, Captured By Rockets, Angry Amputees at Spaceland, 5/25. Maybe you’ll see Peter Murphy at The House of Blues, you’ll hold out for this show, either way, this weekend is a Bauhaus/L&R jamboree.
Steven (Redd Kross) McDonald Group, Sunstorm, Wisely at The Knitting Factory. Off the LA music scene for a while, but not off the sonic radar, this Redd Kross rocker is sure to craft a psychedelic pop wonderland to wake up even the most bored Angeleno from their jaded slumber.
Double Naught Spy Car, Weba Garrettson at The Alterknit Lounge, 5/24. Get out your catsuit and sprawl on the piano, it’s time for spy surf spaghetti westerns and motor oil lounge goddess meanderings.
Peter Murphy, Michael Sheehy at The House of Blues, 5/23. Bauhaus and Love & Rockets fiends have quite a dilemma. Peter’s show, David’s show (Sat, Spaceland), or both, depending on your wallet size or who you think made or wrecked the two bands. Then again, venues might be a factor – big and mainstream or hipster hole in the wall…

Jazz, Classical

Greg Osby at The Jazz Bakery. Come on all you hipsters, it’s really not that far…get out and join the flipsters, clap your wayward hands….

Readings,
Performances

Molly Bryant, Superman Loses the Girl, Noe Venable at Beyond Baroque. A really big show tonight, folks, with our own local wunderboy Mathew Niblock’s Superman Loses the Girl joining forces with KCRW’s Jeffrey Roden, in a show with (Ani Difranco opening act) Noe Venable of the Bay Area, and she-of-packed-house-at-Highland Grounds, Molly Bryant. Throw in Todd Sickafoose, Alan Lin, Ralf Balzer (the Flys), Gary White (the Manchester UK band, Strange) and “harmony goddess-about-town” Jennifer Hardaway, and you’ve got a happening.
