Songwriter Richard Sherman To Give Concert
Will appear at Roosevelt School Academy
Award-winning songwriter Richard Sherman of the Sherman Brothers
songwriting team will perform classics and new songs in concert at
Roosevelt School on May 19.
The Sherman Brothers earned two Academy Awards for the soundtrack
of Mary Poppins. Their song, “It’s A Small World,” written in 1964 for
the World’s Fair, is the most translated and performed song on earth.
Recently, the prolific brothers have scored a new stage production
of “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.” “Chitty the Musical” opened this month
to rave reviews at The London Palladium.
Together, the Sherman Brothers have created over 200 songs for Walt
Disney and scored such feature pictures “The Sword in the Stone,” “The
Jungle Book,” “The Aristocats,” “Winnie the Pooh,” “The Parent Trap,”
“In Search of the Castaways,” “The Monkey’s Uncle,” “That Darn Cat”
and “Bedknobs and Broomsticks.”
The purpose of the concert is twofold: to celebrate the music of
the Sherman Brothers and to foster music appreciation in the
community’s children.
The concert is free and open to the public. It is scheduled for
Sunday, May 19, at 2 p.m. at the Roosevelt Elementary School
Auditorium, 801 Montana Avenue, Santa Monica,. The Roosevelt Booster
Club and Keyboard Concepts are sponsoring the event.
