Jean Rouverol and her husband Hugo Butler, two of the “Hollywood Ten” denounced as “Communists” by the House of Representatives’ UnAmerican Activities Committee in 1951, avoided jail time by fleeing to Mexico with their four young children. In Mexico, they had two more children and lived a life on the run. Rouverol details this ordeal in her “poignant and unapologetic…memoir [which] juxtaposes the support they found south of the border with the unrelenting weight of living as fugitives.”
