S.M. Playhouse Marks 39th Year With Big Bang
The Santa Monica Playhouse turned 39 last month, making it arguably the longest continuously producing theatre in Los Angeles. To celebrate the occasion, the Playhouse's Co-Artistic Director Evelyn Rudie and Artistic Director Chris DeCarlo are presenting a "big bang kick-off" summer that boasts a record-breaking twelve different productions on the Main Stage and The Other Space.
In addition to the productions currently on stage -- "Funny, You Don't Look Like a Grandmother," "Cinderella: The Director's Cut," and "Barnyard Madness with the Three Pigs" -- the Playhouse hosts special programs to benefit the its Diversity-in-Education Scholarship Fund, with last month's "Juliette Marshall First Annual Variety Hour," and the upcoming July 31 production of "Stains, Junk and Other Necessities of Life."
The Playhouse will present its Kids-in-Theatre summer production of the musical comedy "Where Do We Go From Here?" on July 17 and 18, and again on August 14 and 15 at 12:30 p.m.
