Little League All Star Round-Up

James Allardice
Mirror staff writer

Since both Santa Monica East and Beverly Hills 9/10 division Little League had lost their first District 25 All-Star games earlier in the week, Saturday’s match-up meant the end of the season for one of the teams.
Santa Monica East found its way into the loser’s bracket after suffering defeat in the first round match-up. After a scoreless first inning, Santa Monica got on the board in the second inning, highlighted by a homerun by Shannon Farrell. The Santa Monica AllStars continued to scatter the ball around the outfield, quickly building up a 5-0 lead.
That was all the team would need, with pitching from Tyler Heineman and Jay Lamb. Heineman pitched two scoreless innings, allowing just one hit, before giving way to Lamb. Santa Monica East would add a couple of additional runs, and claim the easy victory. The win ended the season for Beverly Hills and ensured at least one more game for Santa Monica East.
Both Santa Monica teams in the 9/10 division stand at 2-1, with the West team also defeating Beverly Hills. After losing to West L.A., the West team rebounded with a Sunday win over South L.A.
The East team played North Venice on Tuesday, while the West team hopes to continue its winning ways with a game against Playa Vista on Wednesday.
In the 11/12 division, the East team has already been eliminated. After beating South L.A. in the opening round, they were beaten by North Venice and Beverly Hills to end their season. The West team remains in the hunt, having played just one game, and defeating Culver City National. Tuesday, Santa Monica West played North Venice for an opportunity to advance to the District 25 semifinals.
In the 13/14 (Junior) division, the Santa Monica East team lost to Playa Vista and will play Beverly Hills in the loser’s bracket. Santa Monica West is the team responsible for putting Beverly Hills into the losers bracket, after a win on Sunday. The West team will next play either North Venice or Playa Vista on Thursday at North Venice Little League. The 15/16 boys team will play their opening round game Wednesday night against Playa Vista at Beverly Hills Little League.
On the girls’ side, in tournaments hosted by Santa Monica Little League, the 9/10 Santa Monica softball team played North Venice on Tuesday night, in their first game of the tournament.
The 11/12 softball team lost to North Venice on Monday. Tuesday evening, Malibu and Santa Monica squared off for the right to advance to the next round.
