Great Hikes

ANOTHER 21 HIKES

Scott Regberg
Mirror contributing writer

Our Monday – Wednesday evening hiking group recently started its seventeenth series of 21 hiking adventures. Trail leader Jerry H. crafted the schedule, beginning with our most westerly hike at Los Liones, and then moving east, ending with Franklin Canyon.
My personal favorites are in the first half of the series, especially the more exploratory trails along the Santa Ynez in the Pacific Palisades Highlands, and east to Will Rogers. The more easterly hikes tend to be straight ahead fire roads -– still beautiful but tough to even pretend that you’re lost in the wilderness.
For those of you with hiking boots, a fanny pack with water, some resistance to poison oak, and an adventuresome spirit, here’s the schedule for the next few weeks.
Just to be clear, these aren’t “organized” hikes, there is no club, dues, fees, or supervision -– just hiking enthusiasts who show-up at the same time: 6:30 p.m. sharp, for two hours of outdoor exploring. (Hiking maven Ed Lubin also reminds me that many of the troop casually dine together after the adventure.)
July 11: Highlands, Santa Ynez Main Trail
July 16: Highlands, The “Crack”
July 18: Highlands, Trailer Canyon
July 23: Highlands, Wind Caves
July 25: Highlands, Wire Break
July 30: Palisades, Bienveneda

August 6: Palisades, Chautauqua
August 8: Will Rogers Park, Oak Tree Ridge
August 13: Will Rogers Park, Rivas
August 15: Will Rogers Park, Canyon Cross-Over
August 20: Capri, Rustic & Sullivan Ridges
