Santa Monica High School’s Men’s Varsity Baseball team lost to
Camarillo, 6-3, last Tuesday, March 5, to finish pool play in the
Westside Tournament. Camarillo, which benefited off a pair of RBI’s by
both Donald Brown and Brad Boyer, remained undefeated in the
tournament following Tuesday’s game. The Vikings’ 1-2 record in the
tournament advanced them to the consolation bracket of their division
where they crushed San Fernando, 8-0, on Thursday night. Santa
Monica’s Sonny Redondo pitched a complete game.
Following Thursday’s victory, the Vikings advanced to the
consolation championships where they defeated Hueneme, 16-11.
Multi-sport athlete James Cooper, who has made his mark on the Viking
division champion football team, had three hits, including a triple,
and five RBI’s in Saturday’s game. Santa Monica is now 3-2 for the
preseason.
Crossroads School’s Men’s Varsity Baseball team also fell in
Westside Tournament pool play, facing Bishop Montgomery, 8-1, on
Tuesday night. Roadrunner Jeremy Klein’s two hits were not enough to
ruin Daniel Stephenson’s complete game for Bishop Montgomery. In the
fourth round, Crossroads faced University, which handed them a 5-2
defeat, despite Roadrunners Will Greene and Alex Thompson who had two
hits each. In the consolation round Crossroads fell to Palisades,
11-1.
St. Monica’s Men’s Varsity Baseball team won a football score
decision, 21-14, over South Torrance in their division consolation
championships of the Westside Tournament. An exciting game with much
too much scoring included Logan Gelbrich’s grand slam. Gelbrich went
four-for-five and had seven RBI’s. Mariner Dan Agatep also went
four-for-five.
Brentwood School’s Men’s Varsity Baseball team competing in the
Newport Elks Tournament fell in the third round to Garden Grove, 6-4,
last Tuesday. The Eagles were forcibly playing catch-up all game as
the encounter started with a homerun in the two-run first inning by
Garden Grove first baseman Dana Schaeffer, to put Brentwood behind,
2-0, a deficit they would not be able to overcome. |
