“Images of Women” at SMC Tues.

As part of Women’s History Month celebration

“Images of Women,” a spoken-word performance piece by Jeanne Marie Spicuzza, will be staged at 11:15 a.m. Tuesday, March 19, at the Santa Monica College Clocktower, 1900 Pico Boulevard.
The free performance is part of the SMC Women’s College celebration of Women’s History Month.
In “Images of Women,” Spicuzza combines poetry and pictures as she seeks to deconstruct masculine images of feminine power and replace them with positive images.
“Much of the inspiration of this series comes from the notion that certain depictions of feminine power are deemed ‘risqué’ while photographs found in catalogues like Victoria’s Secret are considered acceptable and, perhaps more importantly, marketable,” Spicuzza says.
Spicuzza is a Los Angeles poet and performance artist, actor and producer, and writer of children’s stories, plays and screenplays. She is also the founder and chief executive officer of seasons & a muse, inc., the first women-run arts and film production corporate collective.
Her writing has appeared in such publications at The Shepherd Express, Bluff Magazine, Riverwest Review and Poetry Motel.
