Center Stage: John Waters & Peaches
At The El Rey 2/15. Our favorite shock-trash campmeister may have cleaned up his work a bit for the masses, but if you listen closely, you can still find some inside jokes well-placed for his die-hard fans...

Highlights

Rock, Pop

Syd Straw’s Heart Wrecker’s Ball with Sandra Bernhard, Syd Straw, Dave Alvin at The Knitting Factory 2/14. Whether you’re takin’ your honey out for V-day, or you just want to drown your Valentine’s day hatin’ solo sorrows in some humor, camp, trash, n’ folky blues, this show’s sure to be packed to the gills, so get there early.
Lydia Lunch at The Alternknit Lounge (Knitting Factory) 2/14. NYC punk priestess of poetry takes a turn at the wheels of steel, spinning “Songs of Longing and Dis-Ease,” which threatens to be a disc jockey version of her classic punk noir album of disfunctional love stories, “Queen of Siam.”
Ray Manzarek at McCabe’s 2/16. A disciple of the beats and a jewel in the crown of rock n’ roll, Manzarek has made his mark not only with his signature keyboard arrangements in The Doors, but also by producing local punk rock legends X. He’s booked tonight for “an evening of spoken word and music,” and you’d better get there early if you want a good seat.
Candye Kane at Cozy’s 2/14. Big, bawdy, and full of fire, this bisexual/ex-porn star/lipstick feminist has finally hit her stride with her latest release “The Toughest Girl Alive.” As a young girl, she sang on “The Gong Show,” but lost out to a dog juggler. Her sugary-voiced folk, swing, rockabilly, punk-rock, sass n’ country twang has made her a rising starlet in Europe.
Sex with Lurch, TranSexPistols, Erica Valentine, Bitter Things at The Gig (Hollywood) 2/14. Whether you’re an ultra-hip scenester, or a transgendered firefly, this show’s sure to be a treat.
