Yolanda Adams, Los Lobos Headline DWP Celebration

Yolanda Adams and Los Lobos will headline a concert, “Voices for a Green L.A.,” organized by Community Arts Resources (CARS), on Sunday, February 10, at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion at the Music Center.
Kicking off the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power’s (DWP) centennial celebration, the concert will climax A Green L.A. Festival, which will also feature sponsor booths, refreshments and entertainment preceding the concert, from 5:30 p.m.
Adams, best-selling gospel artist of 2000, won the 2000 Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Soul Gospel Album.
Los Lobos, one of L.A.’s legendary homegrown rock bands, has made many successful albums and performed songs for the “La Bamba” movie soundtrack.
Also performing will be Zenshuji Zendeko, a traditional Japanese drumming group consisting of children and young adults, ADAAWE, a five-woman ensemble of percussionists and vocalists who meld sounds of the African Diaspora with original and traditional music from around the world, the First African Methodist Episcopal (FAME) Church’s 125-voice Brookinares Gospel Choir, the 180-member Los Angeles Children’s Chorus, Sephardic Cantor Haim Mizrahi and Armenian virtuoso John Bilezikjian.
DWP’s Green LA programs are designed to improve air quality, encourage efforts to use resources more wisely, bring new clean renewable energy to our city, help beautify school campuses, and increase use of environmentally friendly electric vehicles. The programs include Green Power, Energy Conservation, Water Conservation, Solar Photovoltaics, Electric Transportation, Tree Planting, Recycling, and Educational Services.
“The Music Center contributes to the environment of Los Angeles and we will continue to do so with the opening of the Walt Disney Concert Hall in the fall of 2003,” said Joanne Kozberg, President of the Music Center.
“The Concert Hall will have a beautiful garden for visitors to enjoy, and we plan to bring more green to both the Music Center Plaza and Grand Avenue. We welcome the LADWP and these extraordinary performers and look forward to many more opportunities to bring the power of the performing arts to the many communities we each serve.”
The concert will begin at 7 p.m. Sunday at the Music Center, 135 N. Grand Avenue in Downtown Los Angeles. For tickets, call (213) 365-3500 or visit www.ticketmaster.com.
Free event parking will be available in the DWP parking lots 1 and 2 (at the corner of First and Hope) for people arriving between 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. After 6 p.m., there will be a $5 charge to park at DWP. Parking is also available at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion for $7.
