Reflecting the Concerns of the Community  February 6 - 12, 2002 Vol. 3, Issue 34

“The Greatest Day”

The greatest day was yesterday,
When no one died and no one cried,
When evil was gone and people got along.
When race didn’t matter and people seemed gladder,
When people were humane and didn’t make pain.
When the voice of peace wasn’t interrupted
By people and their minds that have been corrupted.
When evil was something that wasn’t chanted,
And to think that we take the good days for granted.

The greatest day was yesterday,
Although I didn’t realize it yesterday,
Now I know that the greatest day was yesterday.

Today is not a good day.
Today is not a day.
Today is a nightmare that has become reality.

The greatest day is the last day of peace.
The greatest day is the unpredictable day before the day of pain and suffering.

The best day,
The happiest day,
The brightest day.
The greatest day was yesterday.

- Leor Zeitouni, seventh grade
