Music Center Children’s Programs Begin
Events to continue through June
The Music Center Education Division’s Family
Saturdays opened Saturday, January 26 to a sold-out audience of
youngsters and their families at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion’s Grand
Hall.
Family Saturdays continue through June with two series: Pillow
Theatre for children 3-6 and Young Arts for children 5-9. Supported by
United California Bank, the programs feature storytellers, puppets,
musicians, acting troupes and dancers.
The next program, David Prather’s “Poetry Jam,” is scheduled for
Saturday, February 9.
Programs for children 3 to 6 at the Pavilion are: We Tell Stories –
“Proud to be Me,” Saturday, March 2, 11 a.m.; Peter Kors & Donna
Szollosi, Saturday, April 13, 11 a.m., an interactive safari of jazzy
songs and jungle stories; and Rob Bowers & the Rock Salt Company,
Saturday, May 18, 11 a.m., combining singing, acting and movement to
explore a zany universe.
Programs for children 5 to 9 are at Zipper Hall, Colburn School of
Performing Arts, 200 South Grand Avenue, David Prather’s “Poetry Jam,”
Saturday, February 9, 11 a.m; AguaLuna Dance Company, Saturday, March
16, 11 a.m., at the Mark Taper Forum at the Music Center, performing
traditional Mexican folk dance and contemporary pieces; P.L.A.Y. –
“Bill’s New Frock,” Sunday, April 21, 2 p.m., with Center Theatre
Group’s youth theatre, a lighthearted satire about a young boy who
awakens to find that he’s become a girl; and Diane Ferlatte and
Mussukeba Sane, “African Heartbeat,” Saturday, June 1, 10 a.m.
Tickets are on sale at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion box office.
Single tickets are $7 each. Four-program packages are $20. Call
