Topanga Gallery Hosts Student Art
Topanga Canyon Gallery will host an art exhibit of
work by elementary students created through partnerships between local
artists, Topanga Elementary School and Calmont School. The show will
run from January 22-27.
Artists joined students in their classrooms over several weeks last
fall to produce works in painting, sculpture, and mixed media. Many of
the artists will be at the show’s opening on Tuesday, January 22 from
4-7 p.m. The adjacent Howell Green Gallery will also display student
art from the program.
The Student Art Show began as a collaboration between the Topanga
Art Gallery and “Art is Elementary,” an organization founded by
Topanga School parent Linda Gintowt to support the arts at the school.
The Student Art program was inspired by the Chicago Arts Partnership
in Education (CAPE), which has a ten-year history of pairing artists
and teachers in classrooms. Gallery president Rebecca Catterall sees
the project and exhibit as “a natural extension of the artistic
resources available in our community.”
Topanga Canyon Gallery, owned and run by over forty member artists,
is located at 120 N. Topanga Canyon Blvd. in Topanga. Business hours
are Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 11
a.m. to 5 a.m. For more information, call (310) 455-7909. |
