SMC’s Faust Wins L.A. Emmy

The videotape of the Santa Monica College Opera Theatre production of Gounod’s “Faust” has won the Los Angeles Area Emmy Award in the entertainment programming category.
Accepting the award at ceremonies in Pasadena on June 23 was SMC Opera Theatre artistic director Sue Ann Pinner, who also played the lead and served as executive producer.
The video was shown several times last year on Los Angeles City Channel 38 and has also been broadcast on CityTV, Santa Monica, channel 16.
In addition to Pinner, SMC music professor emeritus Lida Beasley, on camera performer, SMC communications professor emeritus Edward Gallagher, associate producer, Alessandro Machi, producer, and Dave Riddle, associate producer, were included in the nomination for the award.
The video is an edited version of a 1992 production in English of “Faust,” which was presented as part of SMC’s “Grand Summer Nights” in the campus amphitheater. It features Pinner in the lead role, the SMC Opera Theatre Chorus and the SMC Symphony with Beasley conducting.
