Alumni Return For Crossroads Concert

A number of alumni will perform with the Crossroads Chamber Orchestra in celebration of the Santa Monica school’s thirtieth anniversary on Sunday, December 30, at the Bing Theater at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA).
Steven Copes (class of ’89) and Joan Kwuon (class of ’86) will be featured soloists and other alumni will sit in with the student musicians for the concert, which will honor Mary Ann Cummins, chair of the Crossroads music department. Alexander Treger, concertmaster of the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra will conduct.
Copes and Kwuon will perform the Bach Double-Violin Concerto. Copes is currently concertmaster of the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra and holds degrees from Curtis Music Institute and the Julliard School. He is also co-founder and artistic director of the Alpenglow Chamber Music Festival in Colorado.
After graduating from Crossroads, L.A. native Kwuon studied at Indiana University, Julliard and the Cleveland Institute of Music. She has performed all over the world and in the spring, she will embark on a new tour, with stops for a recital at Alice Tully Hall in New York and an appearance with Andre Previn at the Kennedy Center. She is the founder of Artists for Breast Cancer Survival.
Also on the Saturday program is Dvorak’s Serenata for Strings, opus 22.
The concert, which is scheduled for 6 p.m., will be broadcast live on KMZT (105.1 FM). It’s free, and seats are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Parking is available across Wilshire from LACMA.
