Alumni Return For Crossroads Concert
A number of alumni will perform with the Crossroads
Chamber Orchestra in celebration of the Santa Monica school’s
thirtieth anniversary on Sunday, December 30, at the Bing Theater at
the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA).
Steven Copes (class of ’89) and Joan Kwuon (class of ’86) will be
featured soloists and other alumni will sit in with the student
musicians for the concert, which will honor Mary Ann Cummins, chair of
the Crossroads music department. Alexander Treger, concertmaster of
the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra will conduct.
Copes and Kwuon will perform the Bach Double-Violin Concerto. Copes is
currently concertmaster of the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra and holds
degrees from Curtis Music Institute and the Julliard School. He is
also co-founder and artistic director of the Alpenglow Chamber Music
Festival in Colorado.
After graduating from Crossroads, L.A. native Kwuon studied at
Indiana University, Julliard and the Cleveland Institute of Music. She
has performed all over the world and in the spring, she will embark on
a new tour, with stops for a recital at Alice Tully Hall in New York
and an appearance with Andre Previn at the Kennedy Center. She is the
founder of Artists for Breast Cancer Survival.
Also on the Saturday program is Dvorak’s Serenata for Strings, opus
22.
The concert, which is scheduled for 6 p.m., will be broadcast live
on KMZT (105.1 FM). It’s free, and seats are available on a
first-come, first-served basis. Parking is available across Wilshire
from LACMA. |
