RAWA/Afghan Women’s Mission Benefit at Lush, 12/16, 3pm. Local LA feminist artists such as Mara, Lisa Johnson, Sheryl Clapton, Kimberly White, Stacy Golden, Patricia Maertens, Holly Light, Lauren Adams, Ali Handal, Sonali Kolhatkar and members of FemMuse.com, Indiegrrl.com and Gogirl.com speak and perform. Also featured will be vice-president of Afghan Women’s Mission who will speak about the situation in Afghanistan, and show a video featuring the plight of refugees. Benefits go to The Afghan Women’s Mission, an organization dedicated to working with the Revolutionary Association of the Women of Afghanistan (RAWA). The mission was founded in January 2000, and the mission’s goals include establishing and operating free hospitals serving Afghan women and children refugees; supporting schools and other programs for Afghan refugees to alleviate emotional suffering and decrease illiteracy and joblessness; and empowering Afghan refugees to build sustainable livelihoods.
