Highlights

Rock/Pop

Brian Wilson, Paul Simon at The Greek, tonight (6/13). The tortured genius responsible for the “psychedelic” rock genre with the way ahead-of-its-time Beach Boys album “Pet Sounds,” Brian Wilson. Throw in another rock legend, Paul Simon, and it’s sublime.
Dave & Tracy Grammer, Claudia Russell at McCabe’s 6/15. Accomplished musicians with a buzz on about their acoustic duos, his guitar, her violin, and their two voices, say McCabe’s, “a musical force that’s even greater than the sum of its parts.”
Jon Auer, Ben Vaughn, Sushi Robo, The Hackensaw Boys at Spaceland 6/15. One of those shows that is sure to be bursting with cool. Get there early, lest you listen from the curb….
Juana Molina at McCabe’s 6/16. KCRW presents the Argentina songbird.
Guy Davis at McCabe’s 6/17. “He’s got some Blind Willie McTell and some Fats Waller; some Buddy Guy and some Taj Mahal; some Zora Neale Hurston and some Garrison Keillor,” say the folks at McCabe’s, “a storyteller, musician, writer, actor and director…a bluesman, dedicated to reviving the traditions of acoustic blues through ancient African tales, the music of the great blues masters and his own songs.” Sounds like a hot night at McCabe’s.

Jazz, Classical

Big Beat Sundaes at The Mint 6/17. This eclectic cast of wonders includes Miles Davis’ nephew jamming with local poet Nelson Gary, in what Nelson describes as a “a happening electric supper club style in an ethereal circus tent pitched by a fusion of blues-jazz-rock.” With heavies like Bernard Fowler, Ivan Neville, Angus Thomas, Lionel Cole, Les July, Alvino Bennett, Angus Thomas, Jason Sanay, Steve Boykin, Daniel Pearson and Rebellum. For more info, call 323.954.9630 (Sundays)

In the book, Chelsea Horror Hotel, “Dee Dee and his wife Barbara move into the famous New York City hotel only to find themselves in the room where Sid Vicious stabbed his girlfriend Nancy Spungen…Sid Vicious, Johnny Thunders and Stiv Bators are joined by the Devil as the spirits of Dee Dee’s friends begin to show up in his dreams.” 4213 West Burbank Blvd. 818-556-6660. 2 – 4pm.
