Two Venice Artists To Show Impressions Of California

Two Venice artists, Karen Landry Mulkey and Mary Thompson, will display their impressionist paintings in an outdoor gallery at 16751 Monte Hermosa Palisades Highlands on Sunday.
An actress as well as a painter, Mulkey was featured in the long-running TV series, “St. Elsewhere.” Among her works to be shown are Venice landscapes and housescapes. She took her BA in Studio Art at the University of Minnesota in 1972, and did graduate work in Theater Arts. Among her other TV credits are “The Practice,” “JAG,” and “Picket Fences.” She also owns a greeting card company, Shoe Fly Ink.
Thompson has been a commercial artist, doing preliminary, studio art and story boards for Arco, Mattell and NBC-TV. She now has a website, Marytales, which is linked to Shogakukan, the largest publisher in Japan. Committed to painting from life, and describing herself as “a plein air painter,” she wanders up and down the coast of California, painting stilllifes, street scenes and landscapes. She took her BA at UC Davis and a BFA at the Art Center College of Design.
A reception for Mulkey and Thompson, and fellow artists Catherine Eaton and Alison Lowe, whose works will also be shown, is scheduled for 3 to 6 p.m. For information, call (310) 459-1199.
