In the CIF preliminary events held last Saturday in Trabuco Hills, Samohi saw four individual athletes and one relay team advance into the finals to be held later this week.
Representing Samohi will be Corey Lenaris in the boys 100-meter dash. Lenaris qualified in the top nine for his event with a time of 10.92. Teammate Brandon Allen also qualified as an alternate with a time of 10.99. Glenn Bolan will be an alternate in the 800-meter run as he posted a time of 1:57.39.
Another alternate will be Lenny Ghaffarian in the boys discus throw. Ghaffarian is the first alternate, as he placed tenth in the event with a throw of 152 feet. The top nine qualify automatically.
Samohi’s boys 4 x 100-meter relay team won heat 3 with a time of 42.85. The team of Lenaris, Allen, Derek Davis, and Mike Ruiz will move on to the next stage of CIF competition.
On the girls’ side, Christien Burrell ran a 16.10 in the 100-meter high hurdles. Medina Britt had a 16-3 distance in the long jump and a 34-11˛ performance in the triple jump. The girls 4 x 100-meter relay team of Britt, Allison Johnson, Sandra Hendricks, and Sequoia Todd ran a time of 49.99 in their heat. Unfortunately, none of those athletes qualify for further CIF competition.
