Last Wednesday, the St. Monica High School Mariners Baseball Team beat St. Anthony for the second game in a row with a score of 10-7.
Once again, the Mariners’ bats came alive with Matt Winkleman going 3 for 3, including a triple and 3 RBIs. Carlos Gonzalez went 2 for 3, scoring 2 runs; George San Martin went 2 for 2 with 2 stolen bases. Senior Steven Hayes pitched 5 shut out innings. Relief pitchers Zack Meyer and Carlos Gonzalez made it exciting in the 6th and Ben Agatep closed the door on St. Anthony in the 7th.
“The team is pulling together and finding their groove out on the field. The key is going to be consistency in our defense and sustaining our offensive onslaught,” said Head Varsity Coach Jack White. “I’m pleased with what I’m seeing.”
The Mariners won the first game against St. Anthony two days earlier. The wins now place their record at 7-9, 3-3 in league play.
