SMC’s W&ED Makes it Official

After a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate its grand opening, the Santa Monica College’s Office of Workforce and Development (W&ED) can now officially call 202 Santa Monica Boulevard home.
SMC President Dr. Piedad F. Robertson expressed her gratitude at the ceremony to those who “dare to dream and help education become not just a dream, but a reality,” adding that “the efforts of the W&ED are helping to create jobs, and hope is being restored.”
The new 12,500 square-foot headquarters, which holds two multi-media classrooms, two state-of-the-art computer labs, and a telecommunications lab, contains ample space to accommodate 45 people.
Established in 1997 to meet the education needs of regional business and industry partners, while contributing to the overall development of a competitive workforce, the W&ED is, what SMC Board of Trustee’s Chair Annette Shamey calls “a wonderful marriage between business and education.”
