Marina Clean-Up To Take Place On Earth Day

The Ocean Conservation Society (OCS) will host its fifth large-scale water clean up of Marina del Rey Harbor and Ballona Creek on Earth Day 2001, Sunday, April 22.
Headquarters for the event will be the Public Launch Ramp in the Marina, on Fiji Way near Admiralty Way. Registration will open at 7:30 AM and boats will be on the water from 8:00 am to 2:00 pm.
Volunteers may bring their own boats and over 70 kayaks will be provided by COBRA Kayaks. A fleet of small boats staffed by OCS volunteers will support kayak teams. Volunteers need not have previous kayaking experience. Boats will be provided on a first come, first served basis, but preference will be given to school and community groups.
Local groups, including the Los Angeles Dolphin Project, will provide environmental education displays and activities. Refreshments, courtesy of Jamba Juice, Starbucks, and Noah’s Bagels, will be served all day.
During the last Coastal Clean Up Day, OCS’s 550 volunteers cleaned 1,650 pounds of trash from the waters of Marina del Rey. This year, it hopes to at least double that amount.
Please register early by calling Ocean Conservation Society at 310-822-5205 or emailing info@oceanconservation. org.
