Highlights

Rock/Pop

Poi Dog Pondering at The House of Blues (From Hawaii). This 13-member band from Hawaii could truly be labeled alernative music when the word “alternative” actually meant something. Embracing world music, punk rock, classical, indigeneous Hawaiian music, folk, country, Celtic and even Polka, this band is a delight to see.
Kate & Anna McGarrigle, Geoff Muldaur, Robert Lockwood, and the Handsome Family at The Getty Center 4/21. Part of Hal Willner’s Harry Smith Project (See center stage), this will be a night to remember, for folkies and non folkies alike.
Betty Blowtorch, The Hangmen, Motorcycle Boy, Texas Terri, Whiskey Biscuit, W.A.C.O., Eagle Clone Revolt, Champion, The Flash Express and many more at the Iggy Pop Birthday Tribute (Spaceland)

Jazz, Classical

Elvin Jones Jazz Machine at The Knitting Factory 4/20. Not only did this jazz legend play with Coltrane, his contribution was sorely missed. Jazz fans will make the pilgrimage tonight, and for good reason. Tonight, he’s graced by Tassili Bond on bass, Eric Lewis on piano, Robin Eubanks on sax and Delfeayo on trombone.
Tommy Flanagan at The Jazz Bakery 4/19 & 20
Medeski, Martin & Wood, Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe at The House of Blues 4/25
