Highlights
Pop
eX-Girl, Fuck, Earlimart at the Troubadour 3/10. Japan’s hottest "Space Punk" grrl-group eX-Girl sports a classic 3-piece rock ‘n roll suite of bass, guitar, and drums, and claims origins from the planet Kero (think Hello Kitty’s friend Keropi) and Spinal Tap as their fave band. Must see!
The Varukers at the Troubadour 3/10. Punk Rock changed everything, and gained nothing really, compared to the millions of dollars MTV, the major labels, and "alt" culture corporations have made since the commodification of alternative music. So why shouldn’t old-school DIY Brit hard-core punkers like The Varukers travel the Atlantic?
Los Super Seven at the House of Blues 3/14. Problem is, with super-groups coming up with a band name rather than just stringing together the musicians' names, if ya don’t know who they are, you might miss it. So in the spirit of better promotion, I’ll clue you in: Tex-Mex legends Freddy Fender and Flaco Jimenez, David Hidalgo and Cesar Rosas from Los Lobos, Texan rockabilly rocker Joe Ely, Tejano vet Ruben Ramos, and country star Rick Treviño. Now you know.
Fishbone at the Key Club 3/15. Proto ska bands like No Doubt owe a great deal to Fishbone, who, back in the day were ripping up the ska stage like nobodies business - even without a hot n’ sassy blond bombshell at the helm
