Samohi Alumni Name Award Winners for 2000
The Santa Monica High School Alumni Association will honor newly elected Hall of Fame members, Distinguished Alumni and Distinguished Service awardees "for jobs well done and lives well lived," in the words of the association, at a dinner on Thursday, March 8, at the Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades.
A committee comprised of Samohi students, teachers and administrators chose Hall of Fame members for 2000. The Santa Monica Alumni Association Awards Committee named both Distinguished Alumni as well as Distinguished Service awardees, all of whom are members of the school's faculty and staff.
Ambassador William Walker, class of '53, and film director/animator Don Bluth, class of '55, have been named to the Hall of Fame.
Distinguished Alumni Awards will go to John Danley, '32, Business, John Fukasawa, '35, City Government, Mike O'Hara, '50, Athletics, John Potterat, '61, Science, Vance Peterson, '62, Education, David Anderson, '83, Creative Arts.
Distinguished Services Award recipients will be Merton Burkhard, Science 1953-1988, Gretchen Davis, Mathematics, 1969-2000, Paul Kerry, Social Studies, 1969-2000, and Beverly Waters, 1957-1986, Administration.
