Kiwanis Sponsors YWCA's WORK

The Santa Monica Kiwanis Club has donated $3500 to support the WORK (Women's Opportunities Resource Knowledge) program at the Santa Monica YWCA.
The eight-week career program is offered to residents of the YWCA's Santa Monica Housing and Education Program -- a transitional housing and independent living skills program for young women who have graduated from foster care, and who wish to continue their education.
The course includes eight three-hour workshops which will assist the young women in defining their needs and expectations, understanding their strengths, identifying career options and training resources, developing communications strategies, and improving their presentation skills. The program uses lectures, games, role-playing and artistic creation.
YWCA Housing and Education Program residents are required to attend school, hold a part-time job and regularly do household chores during the course of their stay.
WORK is a Santa Monica-based non-profit career and job resource center for women. It assists women in attaining employment, increasing their earning capacity, and finding career fulfillment.
To contact the YWCA, call (310) 452-3881. To learn more about the WORK program, call (310) 315-1422.
