First Monday Films' "Fractured Family Life" at the Temple Bar
First Monday Films is the name of a live exhibition hosted by Indiespace to provide a platform for its member's independent film shorts in the real world.
The festival is held on the first Monday of each month. To set the mood for the event, the entertainment begins with music provided by an Indiespace musician, after which 5-6 film shorts are presented. The non-traditional venue is a 'couch bar' offering comfortable seating, food and multiple viewing screens. Filmmakers are in attendance to answer questions after the show. (Film information and streaming video are archived on the Indiespace website.)
Under the theme of 'fractured family life,' the lineup for this month's screening includes:
Danny Greenfield's comedy about puberty, insomnia and birthmarks, "Lola Can't Sleep," and Matt Wilkins' "Interior Latex" about the escapades of a philandering father, his young daughter, her new boyfriend and dad's old flame.
Other titles include "Sally & Angela," "The Small World" and "Frankz & Beans in 'Sperm Warfare," a sepia-toned film on "family services."
"First Monday Films" will be held at Temple Bar, 1026 Wilshire, between 10th and 11th. There is no admission, but the suggested donation is $5. For more information on the show or how to submit your own film call Jeannie Novak at (310) 399-4349; events@indiespace.com.
