Community Meeting On City Utility Tax Will Be Held Monday

Residents who want to reduce or eliminate the City of Saanta Monica's 10% utility tax have scheduled a second meeting on the issue on Monday, March 5, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Ken Edwards Center.
The utility tax is a 10% surcharge on all utility bills -- gas, electricity, phone, cable TV and water. It is collected by the utilities and returned to the City. People whose incomes fall below a certain level may be exempted from paying the tax.
The tax generates about $24 million annually in revenue for the City.
The Ken Edwards Center is located at 1527 Fourth Street. For additional information, please contact e-mail donnablock@earthlink.net or phone (310) 829-4692.
