"Lost America" Photo Exhibit at SMC

"Lost America: Night Photography of the Roadside West" will have its much-anticipated opening this Saturday, February 24, at Santa Monica College .
"Lost America" captures images of abandoned drive-ins, jet plane graveyards, car and truck skeletons, trailers rusted out and baking into the earth, and an old fruit stand, mirroring back to us all that we leave behind.
The color images, which have not been tinkered with in the darkroom or on computer, are the work of Troy Paiva, a designer and photographer who finds himself surprised by the attention the exhibit has received.
"These photos seem to strike a powerful chord in the consciousness of industrialized societies all over the world," Paiva said. "I get long, poetic and beautiful dissertations on 'The Death of America' and 'The Folly of Modern Mankind' almost every day."
The exhibit runs through April 7 at Santa Monica College's Photography Gallery, located on the second floor of the Technology Building, 1900 Pico, parking is free on the weekends. The opening reception takes place on February 24 from 6 to 8 p.m.
