Readings/Performances
Franceye (with Choir) and Florence Weinberger at Beyond Baroque, 2/16, 7:30pm. Sometimes called the "female Charles Bukowski," Francye, a.k.a. "Snaggletooth," graces Beyond Baroque’s stage complete with choral accompaniment. Winner of the Allen J. Freedman Poetry Prize, her recent series, "The Asteroid Poems," was published recently in the final issue of Blue Satellite. Florence Weinberger is the author of two books of poetry, The Invisible Telling Its Shape (Fithian) and Breathing Like a Jew (Blue Chickory).

Jazz, Classical
Ray Brown at The Catalina Bar and Grill 2/15 – 2/18. A true legend of jazz who’s played with everyone from Charlie Parker and Dizzy Gillespie to Sarah Vaughn and ol’ Blue Eyes. This is an incredible treat to see him live, but get there early if you don’t want to listen from the curb.
Annie Ross at The Jazz Bakery 2/15. Another jazz great not to be missed. Her voice personifies all that is hep and cool yet terminally feminine. You may remember Ross from Robert Altman's brilliant film, "Short Cuts," in which she sang most memorably, as well as playing the mother of the doomed cellist played by Lori Singer.
