RAND Opens Center In Cambridge
The RAND Corporation, which is based in Santa Monica, has announced the opening of RAND
Europe in Cambridge, England.
The new center will operate as an independent not-for-profit entity, similar to RAND Europe Berlin, RAND Europe Leiden and RAND in this country. Cambridge trustees are Sir Michael Palliser, Lord Robin William Baron Renwick of Clifton and David Gompert, president of RAND Europe and vice president of RAND.
"RAND is working on some of the most complex and important issues facing Europe and the United States," according to James Thomson, RAND president and chairman of RAND Europe, "So it makes a lot of sense to be in the UK where the policy debate is alive, where new ideas are surfacing and where there is a strong appetite for objective and creative analysis."
Professor Shirley Williams, Baroness Williams of Crosby, who is a member of the RAND Europe advisory board, said, "We welcome RAND Europe. The UK stands to gain greatly from the RAND method of impartial, inter-disciplinary, forward-looking research and analysis."
RAND intends to become an active member of the Cambridge community and to cooperate with Cambridge University in research, education and emerging global market of ideas.
The Cambridge center is located in Regent Street. Its managing director is Hugh Gunn.
