MACHINES AT WORK ON PCH

The crew placing a new sewer line under Pacific Coast Highway has completed 900 feet of tunneling. It is anticipated that the remaining 1800 feet will be completed by Memorial Day. Work on the sewer line on Neilson between Ocean Park and Marine is scheduled to be finished by January 31, while the construction on Main Street (between Navy and Pier) and on Pier (between Main and Neilson) won't be finished until August. The ungainly factory that's popped up on PCH is mildly unearthly, vaguely ominous, and decidedly out of place at the beach. The jet grouting machine shown here is injecting grout into the soil to "stabilize" the soil and "encase" the existing sewer lines.
