After four years working to complete the requirements, Sam Youngs from Troop 67 has achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. Nationally, fewer than 5 percent of all Boy Scouts attain this rank.

The Children’s Recording Arts Alliance will host the fifth annual family concert featuring all five of this year’s children’s album Grammy Award nominees (Beth Nielsen Chapman, Jennifer Gasoi, Elizabeth Mitchell, Alastair Moock and Justin Roberts), this Saturday, Jan. 25 at 10:30 am.

The holidays came early for 105 boys and girls between the ages of five and 12 last Tuesday morning as they were set loose inside the Sears store at 302 Colorado Avenue in Santa Monica to select coats, sweaters, shoes and other winter-time necessities, just in time for the holiday season.

It started with a pair of sticks. At nine years old Dana Hammond, growing up in Inglewood, could barely pay for the bus to go to school. His mother was a functional addict, and he wound up in the foster care system. Then his gift as a drummer was noticed and he was playing in church before a thousand people. He was paid a hundred dollars a week.

Prior to working with the Pico Youth & Family Center I worked for the city of Santa Monica, as a Community Service Program Specialist, at Virginia Avenue Park’s Teen Center. Although we serviced much of the same youth populations, we didn't do what the PYFC does.
