Measure R Parcel Tax General Information, Senior Exemption Application

Citizen's Lawsuit Alleges PCB Contamination In Malibu Classrooms

A citizen's lawsuit filed today accuses Malibu school officials of violating the federal Toxic Substances Control Act by failing to decontaminate the city's combined elementary, middle and high school campuses of allegedly illegal levels of cancer-causing chemicals embedded in caulk and other building materials.

Whether they're conducting interviews of school employees to address a school system issue, analyzing turtles and owls to figure out how to keep bicyclists safe or developing a video game to encourage peers to live a healthy lifestyle, students at John Muir Elementary have embarked on a unique, hands-on science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) program developed by a local District partner, The Exploratory.

100 Days Left For SMMUSD To Reach Annual Fundraising Goal

In August 2014, the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District (SMMUSD) asked the community to do something extraordinary – raise $4 million dollars annually to fund innovative education and enrichment programs for all children in the Santa Monica and Malibu public schools.

SMMUSD Students Drink More Alcohol, More Often, Than Other CA Students

The Westside Impact Project, an LA County-funded initiative started in 2013 to lower Santa Monica’s rates of underage drinking, said Tuesday latest data reveal gaps in the quantity and frequency of alcohol use among Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District (SMMUSD) students as compared to LAUSD students, as well as compared to other major California school districts, including Santa Barbara and San Francisco.

Santa Monica’s own school-based mental health program at the Child and Family Development Center called Youth Development Project has been serving the “at-risk” and “high-risk” youth in the community for the past 20 years.
