Santa Monica College Announces New Art Verge Study Abroad Scholarship

The Santa Monica College Foundation has announced that 10 students in the Winter 2015 SMC Study Abroad Program were awarded $500 grants to help with the costs of their travel to study in South Africa – thanks to the generosity of Mark and Lani Verge. The Verges have established the Art Verge Study Abroad Scholarship Fund at SMC.

The Santa Monica College Pete & Susan Barrett Art Gallery presents the annual SMC Art Department Student Exhibit. This year’s specially created exhibit explores and interprets SMC’s Annual Global Initiative Theme: “Peace and Security: Managing Conflict and Violence in a Turbulent World.”

A free organic produce giveaway, workshops on making natural sunscreen and building your own bike generator, and a cultural festival and upcycled art show are just a few highlights of Santa Monica College’s celebration of Earth Week, to be held starting Monday, April 20. Celebrations continue through Friday, April 24.

The Santa Monica Community College District Board of Trustees has named its chair and vice chair for 2015: Rob Rader and Dr. Louie Jaffe, respectively.

Santa Monica College is among the first California Community College Bachelor’s Degree Programs to receive initial approval from Board of Governors, final approval in March.

SMC Community Education has announced its first-ever series of Open Houses Jan. 26-30. Attendees will have a chance to receive during their visit a 15 percent discount on all classes less than $100, enter a drawing for a free class and receive a surprise gift.

Among the new classes to be offered in Spring is 'Director's Journal: How to Develop Your Directorial Style,' taught by award-winning film director Simone Bartesaghi.

Registration Opens For SMC Communication Education Spring Classes
