Santa Monica College has announced the appointment of Dr. Georgia L. Lorenz as Vice President of Academic Affairs. Dr. Lorenz steps into the position on July 1 to replace Jeff Shimizu, who is retiring after more than 20 years in leadership roles at SMC.

Debra Fine was heading home from a singing lesson in Santa Monica on June 7, 2013. Taking an alternate route to get home this day, Debra ultimately found herself caught in the crossfire of the fatal Santa Monica College shooting spree, leaving her wounded and shot a total of five times.

Santa Monica College Selected For Master's Degree Program

Santa Monica College has been selected as the US partner and host for an international study program that puts students on a direct pathway to a Master’s degree. The pilot program features classes at schools in Asia, at SMC, and at the renowned Bath Spa University (BSU), based in Bath, England.

Santa Monica College Citizens Bond Oversight Committee Applicants Sought

Santa Monica College is seeking applications for the Citizens Bond Oversight Committee, which oversees the implementation of Measures U, S and AA, the 2002, 2004 and 2008 bond measures that are funding capital improvement projects at the college. The application deadline is Friday, June 6, 2014.

The John Drescher Planetarium, which features a Digistar projection system, is located near the elevators on the second floor of Drescher Hall.

New California Community College Trustees President Hails From Santa Monica

Santa Monica College trustee Dr. Louise Jaffe was elected president of the California Community College Trustees for 2014-15, it was announced today.
