Three baseball players from the Santa Monica High School baseball team have been suspended for one week and six baseball games after allegedly smoking marijuana during a baseball tournament in San Diego, according to several sources who spoke directly with The Mirror.

Four temporary crossing guards are now stationed at the Samohi Michigan Avenue and 7th Street crossing during peak drop off and pick up times, as of Monday, Nov. 16, while a more permanent solution to traffic concerns can be determined. It is to address parent and staff safety concerns following the recent conversion to one way streets.

Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District (SMMUSD) is planning improvements to both Santa Monica High School (Samohi) and Olympic High School and has released the Polychlorinated Biphenyls (PCBs) inspection and sampling reports for materials that will be removed during the planned demolition and modernization on both campuses.

The SMMUSD Board of Education approved the appointments of two new Santa Monica High School house principals at its July 15 regular meeting. Julie Markussen and Steve Sharmokh began in their new roles effective July 16.
