Phil Angelides Attends Santa Monica Reception:

Congressman Adam Schiff and L.A. City Councilmember Wendy Greuel, along with Santa Monica resident and political activist Leah Mendelsohn, hosted an intimate reception for Democratic gubernatorial candidate Phil Angelides.

Former Senator Max Cleland – a triple amputee – was the special guest and kicked off the proceedings with a comic reference to his disability. “I didn’t get wounded in Vietnam – I went duck hunting with Dick Cheney.” He then went on to give a serious plea for everyone’s continuing financial support so that “the governator can be terminated.”

Congresswoman Jane Harman was also on hand and talked about her association with Angelides, as did Schiff. Each encouraged this committed group of supporters to participate in the campaign to help get Angelides elected.

In his informal talk, the candidate touched briefly on a number of topics including education and healthcare, emphasizing that Schwarzenegger is the second biggest recipient of Big Pharma money after President Bush. He pledged to roll back college tuition fees, crack down on HMOs and lead the battle against global warming.

Said the personable candidate at the end of his talk, “We are still the frontier of the American dream, and it’s vital that the middle class has the means to climb the ladder to success.”
