A family-friendly morning with Tongva and Chumash Native American story-telling and craft workshops will be held this Saturday morning at Tongva Park. The first season of cultural programming for Tongva Park continues Wednesday with an evening community dance with an internationally known salsa band.

A new park is coming to Santa Monica, as the City Council approved last Tuesday slightly altered design plans for Buffer Park. The unanimous vote also directed City staff to move forward with construction documents.

Parks in Santa Monica have made headlines recently. City Hall and Sacramento have been tussling over redevelopment funding for Tongva Park, while private fitness trainers at Palisades Park are soon to be subjected to new fees and regulations starting Jan. 1. As debates ensue over two open spaces surrounding the downtown core, a new park may quietly be arriving near Bergamot Station: Buffer Park.

Second readings are rarely fodder for excitement. However, the City Council provided some pre-Halloween fireworks in taking two stabs Tuesday evening to approve in second reading an ordinance regulating commercial fitness training activity at Palisades Park and other open spaces across Santa Monica.
