Public Input Sought On Final Phase Of Reed Park Improvements

New Santa Monica Recreation & Parks Commissioners Focus On Green Space

Santa Monica’s Recreation & Parks Commission gained two new commissioners recently, both who have an eye on keeping the city spacious and green.

A rendering of “Buffer Park” that will be developed on Exposition Boulevard between Stewart Street and Dorchester Avenue. Its official name will be decided by the City Council now that the Recreation and Parks Commission has made three recommendations.

Mexican-American War Hero Tops Buffer Park Name List

Following a month of garnering suggestions from the community, Santa Monica’s Recreation & Parks Commission voted on war hero Joe Gandara to be honored in namesake at the nicknamed Buffer Park.

FIT4MOM is one of three large group fitness permit holders for Palisades Park.

A recent funding grant will provide a huge amenities boost to current Buffer Park plans, thanks to an extended design contract awarded at the Santa Monica City Council meeting on Tuesday to encompass the improved facilities.

Tongva Park will host free family events this Saturday from 10 am to noon at the children’s play area and Wednesday from 7-9 pm.

Santa Monica City Hall has launched a new opportunity for fans of Tongva Park to show their support for the park. Benches located in prime spots throughout Tongva Park are now part of the City’s Give Santa Monica program.

Construction fencing will return today around the Ken Genser Square water feature for waterproofing and other work to prevent future problems.

Parks in Santa Monica have made headlines recently. City Hall and Sacramento have been tussling over redevelopment funding for Tongva Park, while private fitness trainers at Palisades Park are soon to be subjected to new fees and regulations starting Jan. 1. As debates ensue over two open spaces surrounding the downtown core, a new park may quietly be arriving near Bergamot Station: Buffer Park.

A one-year pilot program to begin Jan. 1, 2014 was ultimately approved in its second reading on Tuesday night.

The City of Santa Monica will celebrate the opening of its Civic Center Parks this Saturday. The parks encompass roughly seven ocean-view acres in Santa Monica’s Civic Center, stretching from the footsteps of City Hall to Ocean Avenue.

Tongva Park opened Tuesday as a family friendly destination with plenty of child friendly play spaces.
