The CIF Southern Section 4A Division in girls volleyball is going to be a competitive journey to the title game. Santa Monica schools are all in the mix with Pacifica Christian, New Roads and Crossroads being invited to the dance.

New Roads girls’ volleyball team defeated Rolling Hills Prep for the second time, bringing their record for league play to 8-3. The Jaguars battled and went the distance, playing a full five sets. New Roads dropped the first and third sets to Rolling Hills Prep.

Crossroads School for Arts & Sciences has announced that Dong-Yi is the new director of the school’s Elizabeth Mandell Music Institute (EMMI). Dong-Yi replaces Mary Ann Cummins, who remains with the school as a faculty member, where she teaches music theory, a role she has held since the school’s founding in 1971.

Peter Bouckaert, Emergencies Director for Human Rights Watch's (HRW) and an expert in humanitarian crises, will speak with HRW Students Task Force (STF) students from New Roads School and from throughout Los Angeles at New Roads School’s Moss Theater on Oct. 2 at 2 pm.

New Roads School, through a collaboration with the non-profit Live Arts Group, will host a two-part filmmaking master class on Sept. 25 and Oct. 22 at 7 pm. The class will be presented by five industry professionals with credits that include "Grey’s Anatomy," "Sons’ of Anarchy," and "Lord of the Rings," to name a few.

The New Roads (9-7, 5-3) baseball team lost to Temecula Prep (22-4) Tuesday afternoon by a score of 14-3, but not before proving to the entire Jaguar community that they had constructed a solid team that could overcome multiple challenges to have a successful baseball season. New Roads Baseball head coach Matt Steinhaus said that Jaguars did better then he expected. "If someone would have told me that this years team would win just one fewer postseason games than last years squad - after losing four senior starters and having two more would be returning stars from last year still on campus but choosing not to play- I would have laughed right in their face, " said Steinhaus.

It was the bottom of the first inning and New Roads (8-6) was ahead 2-0 when Jaguars slugger Pedro Dupree stepped up to bat against pitcher Shane Hampton of Coastal Christian (5-8) in the first round of the CIF Playoffs at home Tuesday afternoon. Dupree connected with the baseball sending the Conquerors outfield racing backwards in a frantic attempt to recover the ball and throw it home, but by then they were too late and Dupree had already circled the bases to make the game 5-0. By the end of the game, the the Jaguars had extended the score to 21-5.

The New Roads (6-5-1) baseball team defeated Wildwood 9-1 for the second time this season at Clover Park Friday afternoon. The Jaguars are now currently in second place at 4-2 in the Coastal League behind Rolling Hills (8-5). Jaguars pitcher Spencer Backlar pitched a complete game with six strikeouts while Christian Vibiano led the Jaguars with two hits, two runs scored, and two stolen bases including a straight steal of home in the fourth inning.

Crossroads Boys Soccer (8-1-1) won against New Roads (2-3) 8-2 with Nate Merchant of the Roadrunners scoring four goals to lead the Roadrunners against the Jaguars at home Thursday night. Merchant scored the first three goals for Crossroads early in the game with Ezra Kagan scoring the fourth off of a penalty kick.

Crossroads Boys Basketball (2-1) beat New Roads (2-3) 56-43 in an intense match-up where the Roadrunners dominated the court during the entire game at home Thursday night.

After 18 years at the helm of New Roads School in Santa Monica, Dr. David Bryan will step down as President and Head of School at the end of the current school year. He will be succeeded by Walter Landberg, currently Head of School at the Innovation Academy Charter School in Tyngsboro, Massachusetts.

Westside girls volleyball teams Santa Monica High School (10-2), Pacifica Christian (13-1), St. Monica (9-4), New Roads (9-8), Archer (13-3), and Windward (12-4) have all qualified for the CIF Southern Section playoffs.

New Roads (8-6) is on a winning streak with two wins this week beating Lighthouse Christian for the second time this season in a decisive three sets 25-18, 25-15, and 25-20 Tuesday afternoon with the second game won against Wildwood Wednesday in three sets 25-14, 25-19, and 25-17.

New Roads (6-2) beat Lighthouse Christian (3-9) in four highly competitive volleyball sets where the Saints won the first set 26-24 before the Jaguars responded in the next three sets 25-23, 25-23, and 25-17 to win the game Thursday afternoon at Penmar Park.
