Two out of three men who broke into Tala Jewelry on Montana Avenue with a sledgehammer Sunday afternoon were arrested within hours of the burglary that occurred just before 5 pm. One suspect remains at large.

The Aero Theater presents its 6th Annual Screen Student Film Festival at 7:30 pm tonight, March 8. The Italian café chain known as Spazio Caffé has landed on Montana Avenue near 15th Street, bringing yet another flavor of café experience to the neighborhood. Its grand opening was on Saturday, and The Mirror was invited to a preview tasting and celebration.

I’ve started to notice that there’s a service out there for anything. From head-to-toe, these days you can get just about anything done for you. Starting with salons for painted nails, beauty counters that will thread your eyebrows and do your make-up, to the latest for hair which means that if you don’t feel like doing your own (which ranges from washing to a full up-do to a simple “blow-dry”) then you don’t have to. Sounds good to me!

Santa Monica police are interested in identifying and speaking with two “persons of interest” who may be linked to the robbery of Cabochon Fine Jewelry at 1426 Montana Avenue in Santa Monica on Friday, Nov. 30 at about 1:20 p.m. where half a dozen people inside the store were pepper sprayed.

A healthy café has just opened on Montana Avenue across from Whole Foods with a mission to introduce fun, nutritious foods to the community. Pulse Café at 1426 Montana Ave. opened Thursday, Nov. 29, a few days after the location’s former tenant Valen Dolce closed.

Rosti Tuscan Kitchen has been a mainstay on Montana Avenue since opening 20 years ago, but its décor and food has undergone major changes and re-branding since Kevin Goldfein bought the restaurant in June 2008.

Montana Avenue’s annual Halloween Hop returns this Wednesday, Oct. 31 for a fun family afternoon from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Businesses will decorate their stores to the fullest, pass out candy to all the trick-or-treaters, and extend their store hours to 7 p.m. in the evening.

The chair of a Santa Monica neighborhood coalition ended her term in similar fashion as her predecessor: with a resignation. Almost three years after she stepped in to fill in as the leader of the Wilshire-Montana Neighborhood Coalition’s (Wilmont) Board of Directors, Valerie Griffin announced her resignation last Monday.

Like a hot young single girl/guy in LA, there are very few people who don’t like cheese. Fittingly, cheese gets around, and it’s probably safe to say we’ve all seen it laced through eggs at breakfast, pressed between bread for lunch, draped over crostini (while flirting with wine for hors d’hoeuvres), melted beneath pasta for dinner, and occasionally naked lounging next to fruit during dessert.

Nearly 100 people gathered at Caffe Luxxe on Montana Avenue for a night of fun, competition and community at the cafe’s Latte Art Throwdown on June 19. The throwdown pitted barista against barista in three rounds of competition for the title of Best Latte Artist 2012.
