Former Samohi Quarterback Ryan Katz To Play For Denver Broncos

Former Santa Monica High School quarterback Ryan Katz signed with the Denver Broncos as a free agent in the NFL draft on a three-year contract Saturday afternoon after blossoming into a star quarterback at San Diego State during the 2012 college football season. Katz said that he got a call on Saturday from Denver in the fifth round of the NFL draft and was asked to be one of the 15 undrafted free agents of the 23 players chosen by the Broncos in the NFL draft. "Just leading up to it, I had about ten teams that had showed interest in me including the Broncos after pro day," said Katz.

St. Monica Mariners Kevin Holubowski has been accepted into the Airforce Academy on a full sports scholarship and is expected to sign soon in the wake of two exciting football seasons where he piled up more than 1600 yards and rushed for 22 touchdowns.

St. Monica Mariners Lose CIF Semi-Finals To Rio Hondo Prep 42-14

With a little over two minutes left to go in the first half, St. Monica (8-5) was down 14-0 in the CIF Semi-Finals against Rio Hondo Prep (11-1) and Mariners defensive lineman Erik Reese had just recovered a fumble by Kares running back Nate Tayco. It was Tayco's second forced fumble in less than three minutes, and the momentum of the foggy football game seemed to be shifting in favor of the Mariners.

It was the near the end of the third quarter and Santa Monica College (8-1) was down 40-14 against L.A. Pierce (7-2) with a fourth quarter comeback looking nearly impossible. In order to win, Santa Monica College would not only have to shut down the offensive juggernaut of L.A. Pierce, but they would have to score five touchdowns in a game where the Brahmas defense had only allowed the Corsairs to score 14.

Kaczor to the sidelines early in the second quarter.
