Former Santa Monica High School quarterback Ryan Katz signed with the Denver Broncos as a free agent in the NFL draft on a three-year contract Saturday afternoon after blossoming into a star quarterback at San Diego State during the 2012 college football season. Katz said that he got a call on Saturday from Denver in the fifth round of the NFL draft and was asked to be one of the 15 undrafted free agents of the 23 players chosen by the Broncos in the NFL draft. "Just leading up to it, I had about ten teams that had showed interest in me including the Broncos after pro day," said Katz.

St. Monica Mariners Kevin Holubowski has been accepted into the Airforce Academy on a full sports scholarship and is expected to sign soon in the wake of two exciting football seasons where he piled up more than 1600 yards and rushed for 22 touchdowns.

Santa Monica College quarterback Alfonso Medina will be transferring to the division one football program at Weber State University on a full ride next season after a record breaking season playing football with the Corsairs.

With a little over two minutes left to go in the first half, St. Monica (8-5) was down 14-0 in the CIF Semi-Finals against Rio Hondo Prep (11-1) and Mariners defensive lineman Erik Reese had just recovered a fumble by Kares running back Nate Tayco. It was Tayco's second forced fumble in less than three minutes, and the momentum of the foggy football game seemed to be shifting in favor of the Mariners.

In a football game that came down to the last minutes of play in the fourth quarter, the St. Monica Mariners (8-4) defied the odds and won their quarterfinals game at home Friday night against Boron (10-2) defeating the Desert Mountain League champions 19-16.

Santa Monica College won the Pacific Conference Championship in football for the second straight year defeating Antelope Vally 24-21 away at Antelope Valley and qualify to play in the American Division Championship Bowl.

Santa Monica High School made short work of Templeton winning 44-0 with wide receiver Jason King scoring four touchdowns to lead the Vikings to victory over the Eagles Friday night at Santa Monica College.

It was the near the end of the third quarter and Santa Monica College (8-1) was down 40-14 against L.A. Pierce (7-2) with a fourth quarter comeback looking nearly impossible. In order to win, Santa Monica College would not only have to shut down the offensive juggernaut of L.A. Pierce, but they would have to score five touchdowns in a game where the Brahmas defense had only allowed the Corsairs to score 14.

Santa Monica High School (7-3) shut out Hawthorne (1-9) at home Friday night with receiver Jason King scoring three touchdowns to lead the Vikings to victory over the Hawthorne Cougars to end their regular season play.

With a cold front setting in Thursday night and St. Monica's (6-4) playoff aspirations looking dim, the Mariners went into the football game against a Bellarmine-Jefferson (4-6) with high hopes. Bellarmine-Jefferson looked good on paper after coming away with a commanding 55-28 victory against St. Anthony (6-3) last Saturday.

Just because the Santa Monica College (7-1) football machine got off to a slow start against Santa Barbara (3-5) didn't mean they couldn't pull off a victory during Homecoming week. The Corsairs outgunned the Vaqueros 41-27 with a third quarter aerial surge that pushed them over the top to win the game on the Corsair Field Saturday, Oct 27.

The Brentwood High School Eagles (6-1-0) took down the Mammoth High School Huskies (1-6-0) to advance 3-1 in the Alpha League in a impressive display of dominance winning the game 48-16 at home Friday afternoon Oct. 12.

Santa Monica High School's (4-3) offensive line rose to the challenge Friday night leading a homecoming victory against Beverly Hills High School (1-6) while the defense shut down the Normans offense 24-0 in a ground war that painted the Normans blue and gold on the Corsair Field lifting the Vikings to 2-0 in league play.

It was a ground war Friday night with St. Monica (5-2) out rushing St. Genevieve (5-2) in a pound for pound crunch for crunch football game with the Mariners ultimately pulling away with the victory 33-21.

The St. Monica Mariners (4-2) shut out the Animo Inglewood Aztec Eagles (0-6) 56-0 in front of their homecoming crowd at Santa Monica College scoring 35 points the first quarter alone in a lopsided game that sent quarterback Lucas Dretska, running backs Kevin Holubowski and Nicolas Pegnato, and receiver J.P. Kaczor to the sidelines early in the second quarter.
