Santa Monica Fire Stations To Hold 9/11 Remembrance Ceremonies On Thursday

In recognition of those who perished in the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001, the Santa Monica Fire Department will conduct its annual brief and solemn remembrance ceremony consistent with the International Association of Fire Chiefs recommended protocols.

Australian Firefighter Concludes Fellowship At Santa Monica Fire Department

Australian firefighter Michael Yates, from the Queensland Fire and Emergency Services Department in Queensland Australia, has completed his four month fellowship with the Santa Monica Fire Department’s Training Division.

Santa Monica firefighter Joe Cavin left Aug. 8 with an L.A. City Fire counterpart to the fires burning at the California-Oregon border as part of a special deployment of USAR experts. On Tuesday he was part of a team that rescued a trapped water tender driver.

As part of the unique deployment of Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) resources to the California-Oregon July Complex Wildfires, Santa Monica Firefighter Joe Cavin, led by Los Angeles City Captain Cecco Secci and a six member team, was dispatched to a water tender accident where it rolled 150' down the side of a mountain trapping the driver/operator on Tuesday, Aug. 12.

Firefighters on Friday rescued a hiker injured in the Pacific Palisades area. The rescuers were sent to the area of Temescal Canyon Road and and Sunset Boulevard shortly after 10 a.m., Erik Scott of the Los Angeles Fire Department said.
