Fourteen-year-old Jiye Angela Bae, a freshman at Santa Monica’s Crossroads School for the Arts & Science, was chosen as one of Southern California’s most talented teens in the finale performance at The Music Center’s 25th Annual Spotlight Awards this past weekend.

Quite a unique event took place inside council chambers at Santa Monica City Hall on May Day: the governing body considered a development agreement (DA) that was not a multi-use development featuring apartment units and ground floor shops.

Windward Invitational Gives Westside Track And Field Athletes Competitive Edge

The Windward Invitational track and field meet brought together numerous athletes from the Los Angeles Area that included Brentwood, Archer, Crossroads, and Windward high schools offering athletes the chance to compete against each other at Santa Monica College Friday afternoon. 2012 Olympian Prince Mumba, who coaches Cross Country at Windward High School, said that he thought the meet was important for all the participants. "This is the first track meet for the high schools and it is really important for them," said Mumba. "It helps them prepare for their league meets next week."

Crossroads Boys Volleyball Grits Out Win Over Brentwood 3-1

Crossroads (4-0) boys volleyball won their first league game against Brentwood (1-2) soaring over the Eagles 3-1 at Brentwood High School Friday night. The Roadrunners lost the first set 27-25 before climbing back on top to win the next three sets 25-19, 25-23, and 25-15. Crossroads Boys Volleyball Head Coach Mary Jo Deutschman said the Roadrunners played well against the Eagles. "It's our first league game and I think we played well," said Deutschman. "We lost the first game but then we just buckled down and came back tough and gritted it out."

Home Run Derby Starts Off Santa Monica Little League Baseball Season

Santa Monica Little League hosted its first Rosti Home Run Derby event followed by the first games of the baseball season on Majors Field at Memorial Park Saturday morning. After an hour of home run slams by the Santa Monica Little League's top batters, Orioles Cody Rains was declared winner of the Home Run Derby. "I'm speechless," said Rains. "I've always been known as a good hitter and now I just proved it."

Westside Boys Basketball Teams Advance In CIF Playoffs

The Westside saw five of its teams enter the playoffs and compete in a winner advances tournament bracket to determine how far teams will advance toward the championship round of the CIF Southern Section Boys Basketball. Santa Monica High School won in the championship game against El Toro at the Anaheim Arena to win the CIF Southern Section Boys Basketball crown. Westside teams that competed for the 2013 CIF Southern Section crowns include: Santa Monica High School (23-6), Crossroads (15-10), St. Monica Catholic (12-15), Brentwood (28-3) and Windward (18-8).

The Westside saw six of its teams enter the playoffs and compete in a winner advances tournament bracket to determine how far teams would advance toward the championship round of the CIF Southern Section Girls Basketball. Westside teams competing for the 2013 CIF Southern Section crowns include: Windward (30-0) Crossroads (21-3), St. Monica (27-6), Pacifica Christian (10-12), and Archer (6-18).

Crossroads Eliminated From CIF Quarterinals By Silverado

With 15:04 left on the clock, Crossroads (16-3-3) forward Eli Berg-Rosenblatt scored the first of his two goals to tie the game 1-1 against Silverado (17-4-3) in the CIF Southern Section Quarterfinals cracking through a seemingly impenetrable defense at home Friday night. The goal looked to change the tide and fortunes of the Roadrunners boys soccer team in a winner advances loser goes home soccer playoff game, and for the moment it did.

Crossroads Lady Roadrunners Power Through Vistamar 4-1 To Advance In Playoffs

Crossroads (16-4-1) defeated Vistamar (8-4-4) in the second round of the CIF Playoffs 4-1 scoring two goals in the first half and two goals in the second to power over the Vikings at home Tuesday evening. With the win, the Roadrunners advance to the CIF Southern Section Quarterfinals.

Crossroads Boys Soccer Blows Out New Roads 8-2

Crossroads Boys Soccer (8-1-1) won against New Roads (2-3) 8-2 with Nate Merchant of the Roadrunners scoring four goals to lead the Roadrunners against the Jaguars at home Thursday night. Merchant scored the first three goals for Crossroads early in the game with Ezra Kagan scoring the fourth off of a penalty kick.
