There are not too many schools that can balance a top-notch sports program with outstanding performances in the classroom as well. Crossroads has managed to do both exceptionally well. Crossroads placed three teams in first place in the CIF Southern Section-Ford Academic Awards, another five sports in second place, two sports in the third spot and two more in fourth. The Roadrunners had other sports place in the top ten.

After a couple of close losses, Crossroads baseball team got back in the win column Tuesday with a 3-2 win against Viewpoint. Crossroads took the lead in the in the bottom of the first inning, jumping out to a 1-0 lead.

Things should be interesting down the stretch in the Alpha League when it comes to boys’ volleyball. Both Windward and Crossroads appear to have strong squads this season. It is showing up in league play.

Crossroads School track and field boys and girls teams shined at a Delphic League meet that was conducted at Santa Monica College March 20. On the boys’ side, Crossroads recorded 167 points to outdistance runner-up Windward, which finished the meet with 78 points. Milken followed with 76 points, Viewpoint registered 45, and Sierra Canyon wrapped up the meet with 34 points.

Big things are going on at Crossroads School. The sports program is flourishing this spring with an array of student-athletes shining in the spotlight for the Roadrunners. Swim phenom Zoe Darmon, a freshman at the school, has qualified for automatic CIF times in three individual races and has broken the school record in the 500 freestyle.

The Crossroads boys basketball team had a good run this season. But that season is now officially over. The Roadrunners went through a tough shooting stretch in the third quarter and that proved to be the team's detriment in a 60-52 CIF-SS Division 4A quarterfinal loss to Windward at home on Tuesday night.

The playoff scene continues for local basketball teams as Samohi, Crossroads and Pacifica Christian all get in gear for another round of postseason play. Samohi (17-10), which easily defeated Montebello on Friday, will take on Rancho Cucamonga at home tonight at 7.p.m. Crossroads (19-5), which barely escaped with a 60-52 win against Providence, will go up against Windward (20-8) on their home court tonight at 7 p.m. as well.

The Crossroads boys basketball team took care of business against Providence to move on to the quarterfinal round of the CIF-Southern Section 4A playoffs. The Roadrunners were in a tight squeeze in this contest, pulling out a narrow 60-52 win Friday night.

The Crossroads boys basketball team hit the road against Providence in the second round of the CIF Division 4A playoffs with game time scheduled for 7 p.m tonight. Crossroads advanced after the first round win against Sage Hill.

Crossroads School for Arts & Sciences broke ground Sunday, Feb. 9 on its new Science Education & Research Facility, which will house the School’s Middle and Upper School science programs.

The Crossroads Middle School boys soccer and girls basketball teams both won came up victorious in winning the Pacific Basin League Championships. The undefeated girls’ squad went into playoffs as the team to beat.

Frosh sensation Ethan Finkel is now recognized as one of the up and coming cross country runners in the state. After a dominant season and representing the Crossroads boys cross country team at the CIF and state meets, Finkel is receiving a lot of attention these days.

Crossroads School for Arts & Sciences has announced the inaugural honorees into its newly created Athletics Hall of Fame. The Hall of Fame was created to maintain the rich heritage and tradition of successful athletics at Crossroads.

Crossroads cross country coach David Olds still have a few tread marks left in those tires. He proved as much when he competed at the recent USATF National Club Cross Country Championships in Bend, Oregon, an annual meet that features the top cross country clubs and runners from all over the nation.

The Crossroads School boys team finished 15th at the CIF cross country state championships, which took place in Fresno. Freshman sensation Ethan Finkel delivered as he has done all season, coming in third in his division.

Earlier this year, Crossroads School second-grader Lucinda Empson-Speiden, the daughter of Rachel Klauber-Speiden and Josh Empson, submitted a poem to a contest that was held for student writers through the United States and Canada.

Prior to Tuesday’s CIF Southern Section Division 4-A semifinals playoff matchup against Laguna Blanca, Crossroads had been on a roll. The Crossroads volleyball team turned more than their share of heads with their play on the court. To get to the semis, Crossroads defeated Long Beach St. Anthony in three sets in the quarterfinal round.

The Crossroads athletics department is doing some big things. At least in fall sports they are. While football is all the rage and getting the bulk of the attention at the moment in high school sports, other athletic programs are going on strong as well.

The Crossroads girls volleyball battled hard against Paraclete on Halloween night, but came up short in the victory department. Paraclete defeated Crossroads in four sets, winning 25-19, 25-17 and 27-25.

It was a good day at Mt. SAC for the Roadrunners cross country team. Crossroads freshman boys, division 4 and 5 combined-Harper Peck Voll placed 18th overall in 18:56, a very fine time for a freshman. The Roadrunners freshmen team placed 10th overall and 5th among Division 5 schools.
